I despise Monza. This is not to say sheās a bad character. BSC is one of my favorite books and she drives that book. But I hate her with all my heart. I actually like her better at the start when sheās cold and ruthless than the end when she is more caring. Watching her absolutely ruin Shivers in every possible way and then continue to scorn him while she becomes a ābetterā person and Shivers continues his descent into angry insanity is infuriating. She doesnāt deserve to become a better person. She willfully ignored her brothers constant treachery and blamed everybody else for the consequences. Her quest throws Styria into further chaos. Her quest ruined Shivers, killed Morveer and Day, and forced Friendly into an extremely uncomfortable situation. She deserves the redemption arc least of all. Her ruining of Shivers is unforgivable and seeing her become a better person makes it worse to me. Shivers deserved her ending.
EDIT: thank you for all the comments and discussion! Iāve really enjoyed reading your guyās thoughts and itās definitely influenced how I think of Monza. I want it to be clear that, from the start, I never thought Monza was a poorly written character. I think she is an incredibly well written, extremely complicated character. I probably also donāt assign enough blame to Shivers. At the end of the day, I just canāt get past the fact that the consequences of her actions are by and large faced by people who arenāt her while she preaches the value of mercy. Again, thanks all.
Second EDIT: I have only read through BSC and starting the heroes! I do not know how she will develop further in the series
