So, while I agree that "Home" was a great episode and it's climax was exceptionally well done and emotional, I feel that nobody is mentioning some parts of the episode that were actually not as good as they should've been.
I want to share these thoughts to see if anyone feels the same. And to to provide constructive criticism.
The parts I'm talking about are:
-All the scenes in the UN Sec. Council were pretty dull and didn't feel tense or suspenseful. (Maybe because I read the books, but I don't think so).
What I mean is, when things happen like a huge asteroid careening towards earth (btw I don't think even all those nukes would have destroyed it. In terms of the sheer amount of mass and kinetic energy it contained, and the fact nukes produce mostly heat, but anyway) and a planetary-scale nuclear arsenal launch-in other words, the End of the World, people who are considering these things should look much more frightened and concerned than they were in those scenes, and the camera angles & lighting could have conveyed it better too (more close-ups, show people sweating, shaky-cam, emergency lights/alerts, etc.)
Same goes for the music in those scenes. Wasn't tense or dramatic enough relative to the events depicted.
-In the high G acceleration sequence, I felt there wasn't a good enough feeling of the crushing weight felt in those speeds. Yeah they all moaned and breathed shallow but I feel it was inadequate and it would have been better to have some object in the room bend/break/distort or just behave in some way that would demonstrate its weight increased significantly. Even just by using sound alone, such as the sounds of the groaning metal, like a submarine diving into great depth (from the hull plates warping/squeezing from the acceleration).
-The look of Eros' interior was also pretty dull, the blue fireflies being the only interesting element, until the "Blue Falcon". But even in there, all the protomolecule did was grow these larger blue-er tube-nodes. In the books they're described as having interesting geometric patterns and various textures, shapes and matter-states (including liquid). Looking more like a jungle. This isn't even much more expensive to do, and much more visually interesting and thematic (since the protom. is supposed to demonstrate intelligence) than just glowing blue mold.
What do you think?
