So I just finished reading surface detail, and the last sentence reveals Space Marshall Vattueil's real name to be Zakalwe. My memory is a bit fuzzy but I seem to recall Zakalwe, or rather ellothiel, dying at the end of use of weapons? Also I was under the impression the 2 books are separated rather thoroughly in time, though I might be mistaken in that. The role as excelling in matters martial sure fits the bill though, so my question is:

Is space Marshall Vattueil from surface detail and Zakalwe/Ellothiel from use of weapons the same person?
