In honor of her debut (I think?) post in RPW, I thought I'd share the literary prose of GirlWritesWhat for the underprivileged who haven't read her.
Her totally unique position on voting rights: Be a special snowflake, not a drop in the bucket.
Fuck, I'm still not 100% convinced that women's suffrage wasn't a huge mistake. Or that universal suffrage wasn't a huge mistake. Both come with pros and cons. And maybe as someone who sees voting as not worth the bother, I'm detached enough from it to contemplate the forbidden questions, but jeez. What's a vote? Every four years, you get to be one of millions casting votes? If someone took away my right to have 1/100,000 th of the decision-making power in my country... well, why would I care? Oh my gawd, my right to be one drop in a barrel? In a water tower? How dare you take that away!
After we split up, I waited a year before I even thought about dating again. There was no "back burner" guy waiting in the wings. I wasn't the monkey who didn't let go of one branch 'til the next branch was in my reach. I was the monkey who let go of the branch because it was rotted anyway, and fell 20 feet, and then eventually decided it was time to see if I could find another tree. [...]
And big huge warning about "open relationship dynamics". For men, it's often a relief--"Wow, the behaviors that have ruined every good relationship I've ever had just because she couldn't accept that I'm still 100% devoted to her even though I strayed, won't ruin this one." This is a dirty trick. Men who stray are often interested in sexual variety and a man cheating doesn't reliably predict how invested he is in his primary relationship. A woman who wants an open relationship? From my experience on certain forums and in certain communities, and from general observation in my personal life? She's shopping for better offers, and like that monkey, once she has a better branch and thinks she's got a good grip on it, she'll happily let go of the other.
Women<-->monkeys is a favorite analysis of hers. Here she is explaining matriarchal slut culture via bonobos.
