What If Ilya and Dom were trying to make everyone believe that Katarina actually died in the car explosion by killing someone who wasn’t actually Katerina. I’m sure a burnt body wouldn’t be identifiable. It was a different woman altogether and instead they killed her husband.
Now that woman is back to get revenge and is trying to learn what actually happened that night and why her husband was killed. That’s why she is digging into Katarina, to learn all about her and her secrets and getting close to Elizabeth as leverage.
Only thing I don’t understand is why Raymond called her Katarina in France if he knows she is dead. Maybe this woman actually ended up killing Katarina and took her place and Raymond didn’t know that, which would explain why he called her Katarina first. Or Katarina is alive still in hiding and Raymond thought he found her.
EDIT: This would explain why she didn’t know about the surgeries even though Katarina was supposedly with whoever got them and why she got so emotional over her husband/lovers death
