Is calling everyone 'chef' a common thing in restaurants/fine dining?

Post Body

Started a new bartending gig, and my manager calls everyone 'chef'. He says it's just a thing he does, but I also found out he has family working in Michelin star restaurants.

I need help figuring this out--does he do this because he also saw the show or because this is a norm in fine dining? I don't want to bring up the show if I'm not sure he's seen it lol

Comments

Most of the time, yes. It’s a sign of respect to anyone in the kitchen.
