Bulbasaurs line is my least favorite starter design of all time
Post Body

Recently on Reddit and twitter I’ve seen the bulbasaur line have a massive resurgence and I’m not sure what people see in it.

The first stage, I’m not sure how people find this “cute”. I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be a smile or just his mouth open but either way it looks weird and off putting. It’s closed during ij game battles but he always just kind of looks grumpy and “ugh guess we doing this now”, instead of happy clueless or determined like other starters do in their first stage. It’s not very likable

Ivysaur is fine.

Venusaur just makes me feel sad. I know many Pokémon have their mouth open during battle but the animation for venusaur just makes him look like hes panting and exhausted. It reminds me of a sick dot that needs to be put down instead of a badass dinosaur. Like good god take off that flower it’s clearly hurting him. His competitive history doesn’t do him any favors either, last gen he was the second most used starter besides charizard and incinroar and his main gimmick was spamming sleep powder which is not a likeable trait.

Charizard and blastoise look infinitely more badass (and have more fun strategies in comp) and charmander/squirtle are p damn cute. Bulbasaur might be better against the first two gyms but blastoise is better more gyms and gets a really good HM (you can just find a grass type early for Misty) and charizard gets a really useful HM.

I’m not sure what people see in it.
