I have spent the last two weeks mulling over how stupid I was for falling for the one scam everyone warns you about: getting tailored clothes from the place the tuk tuk driver takes you too.
I had even read about this, so why did I fall for it?
And so now I have this somewhat decent dress that fits me very well and my boyfriend has these shirts that fit him very well, and we paid way too much for them, and he knew that it was shady the whole time but I just bought into the whole thing. And I just wanted to note how entirely clever these people are. They do absolutely nothing illegal. They don't even do anything that can really justify a chargeback. They tell you it's good quality fabric but never prove it to you. The people involved in the scam (besides the tailor honestly) all seem really genuine and kind and friendly. I mean I still even like the tuk tuk driver we had even though he was ripping us off just because he was a funny guy and made me laugh.
I mean I wish I hadn't spent that money but the clothes aren't even bad quality even and they fit us. I'm just like, amazed at how easy it was for me to fall for all of it. I never realized how susceptible I am to scams. This is the first time I feel like I've ever been truly scammed.
I mean I guess when you feel like you have the money to spend it's not really that big of a deal to loose it though, so while for a bit I was mad, now I realize it wasn't that big of a deal and I was just an idiot and I'll know better next time.
The whole ordeal definitely soured our opinion of Bangkok a bit, but the rest of the country is quite lovely.
Thank you for all of your advice and for all of the help on this sub!
