I'm planning a trip to Thailand to escape the stressful life in Tokyo for a bit. I’m originally from Amsterdam, where I used to be a regular weed smoker. However, since moving to Japan over two years ago, I’ve completely stopped due to the country’s strict laws and harsh penalties for cannabis use.
Recently, I’ve read a lot about Thailand becoming more relaxed about cannabis use. Since I’ll be there as a tourist, I’m curious about a few things:
Is smoking weed still legal in Thailand, even for foreigners and non-residents?
I’ve heard mixed things recently, so I’d like some clarity.
What happens when I return to Japan? Now that Japan has criminalised cannabis use, I’m wondering if I’ll be tested upon re-entry or if there’s any chance I could get into trouble for having smoked in Thailand.
If anyone has experience with this or knows the current laws and enforcement around cannabis use in both countries, I’d appreciate your insights. I definitely don’t want to get myself into any legal trouble, so I want to fully understand the situation before making any decisions.
Thanks in advance!
