Hello, I am traveling to Thailand and am considering these two locations.

I visited Bangkok 10 years ago and somebody told me so much has changed that it will be like visiting a new city. I also wanted to visit Hatyai because it is easier for me to get to by train.

I wanted some advice on the following 1. Safety as a female solo traveler and also the civil unrest situation that travel advisories in western countries discuss, and avoiding the red light district. 2. Living costs and quality. I mainly want cleaner air, ease of transportation, access to filtered water, non smoking. I don't drink. I do go out to eat which brings me to 3. Food and culture. I like learning about the food in different parts of the country. I will likely be staying in the area for at least a few weeks 4. Mosquitoes. I really hate mosquitoes because they really love me. From personal experience the ones in Krabi and Bangkok love me, if anybody has prevention techniques I would love to know them.

Additional notes: I like beaches and also thought about learning to surf, but that is a nice to have and not a must.
