Risks from food and drink

I'm excited to be traveling to Thailand for the first time in January!

I will spend two weeks in Southern Thailand and two more weeks in the North and Bangkok. Literature from my doctor warns about health risks from contaminated food and drink.

The warnings say not to eat raw foods like salads, uncooked fruits and vegetables and to eat only what has been cooked and is still hot.

It also says, in places where water may be contaminated, only the following may be safe to drink: 1) beverages made with boiled water; 2) canned or bottled carbonated beverages, including carbonated bottled water and soft drinks; 3) alcoholic beverages. They even warn about using ice that may have been made from contaminated water.

I want to enjoy the local foods and drinks but I also don't want to get sick.

I have been following r/ThailandTourism for a couple months and have not seen any post where the traveler got into trouble from eating the local foods. Is this something you worry about or is it not very common in Thailand?

As for drinking water, I bought a LifeStraw which is a plastic water bottle with a built in two stage filtration system which is advertised to purify even water running in a river (in cases of emergency.) Does anyone here use such a system?

Are there any areas you think would be more likely to have contaminated food/water?

Appreciate any words of wisdom from frequent Thailand travelers.
