Post Body

Planning a trip to Thailand and Vietnam with my mom and she's insisting upon using a travel agent (not my idea, but whatever). The trip will be 2 weeks long in mid February: we're leaving from the US East Coast and starting in Ho Chi Minh city, then Chau Doc, a day or two at one of the beach towns (possibly Krabi) in Thailand and then finishing in Chiang Mai for 5 days. The travel agent is charging a flat $500 fee to plan and book the trip for us but says we should expect it to be around $8 - $10K a person (so almost $20k for both of us) including flights, hotels, excursions, but not food/drink. That seems like a overly expensive plan to me. Am I being crazy?
