a housemate left us a jar of this stuff, how do you actually use it?

it's so delicious and i've been treating it like indonesian sambal, like a thick dipping sauce for my protein. i read somewhere that it can also be used as a spread (????) and i wonder if it's actually used like that.
so basically my question is, what are the authentic/real uses of this delicious stuff?
