Post Body

A.K.A. "Why did it take Bochy this damn long..."

Before people get out the doomer crucufix or whatever, I really am appreciative of Marcus Semien, what he has done here, how he has performed, and what his presence means to the team.

But going back to the 2023 All-Star Break, his aggression has been the cause of as much negative as it has positive, if not sometimes more. Swinging at the first pitch on works on young or unprepared pitchers. Anyone who doesn't know that Marcus is coming after the first thing they throw has been living under a rock.

I lived through Ian Kinsler's aggressive leadoff pop-outs. We don't need a tone setter as much as we need a man on base. If that's Smith, Langford, or, if he ever gets healthy again, Evan Carter, so be it. But Simmy has been a terrible fit at leadoff for a looooooong time now, and the occasional leadoff homer has not made up for that.

My only gripe now is why we switched Smitty for Simmy. Seager is an obvious power bat who would excel at third in the order. Bochy (in whom I still trust) has shown an obvious disregard for wheels or base stealing, so I don't see why Seager MUST hit second in the order.

Edit: Also, everyone saying "shift Adolis down in the order," I personally agree. Until he gets his mojo back (consistently) he is becoming a liability at 4 or 5. Hopefully the Jung-man is ready to eat up some MLB pitching and he and Lowe can excel in the power spots of the batting order until the MonStars give Adolis all of his talent back.

I think three time WS Champ Bruce Bochy has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to trusting his veteran second baseman as his leadoff man.

That being said, I loved the switch last night. I like Seager a lot in the two hole. It probably gives him a dozen extra plate appearances a year and without knowing the dynamics in the clubhouse, I’d venture to guess he wants to hit there.

Would love to see Jung back in the cleanup spot, Lowe 5th, Langford 6th, Garcia 7th, Heim 8th and Taveres 9th. I think next year if Langford takes the step we all think he will, he ends up hitting as high as 3rd. He’s performed admirably considering his age and his peripheral stats suggest he’s getting a little unlucky lately, but I think 6th makes more sense than 4th if Jung steps back in seamlessly.

My apologies, don’t know what I was thinking
