The Rangers have been a couple games over .500 since June 1. There were some people who were crying "collapse" recently.
Here are the good or at least decent Rangers teams going way back, and the months they've spent around .500 or worse:
2010, 90 wins. 11-12 in April, 14-13 in July, 13-15 in August.
2011, 96 wins. 13-15 in May, 14-13 in June.
2012, 93 wins. 14-14 in May, 9-14 in July, 15-16 in Sep/Oct.
2013, 91 wins. 14-14 in June, 11-15 in July, 12-16 in September.
2015, 88 wins. 7-14 in April, 14-13 in June, 10-14 in July.
2016, 95 wins. 11-15 in July, 15-13 in Sep/Oct.
Last season's playoff teams:
HOU, 106 wins. 11-10 April
PHI, 87 wins. 11-11 April, 10-18 May, 14-17 Sep/Oct.
NYY, 99 wins. 13-13 July, 10-18 August
SDP, 89 wins. 11-14 July, 16-14 Sep/Oct
CLE, 92 wins. 9-12 April, 12-12 May, 13-15 July
SEA, 90 wins. 11-10 April, 10-18 May, 16-13 June
ATL, 101 wins. 10-12 April, 13-15 May
LAD, 111 wins. 14-12 June.
TBR, 86 wins. 12-14 June, 14-13 July, 14-19 Sep/Oct.
NYM, 101 wins. 13-12 June.
TOR, 92 wins. 14-12 May, 15-13 June, 14-12 July, 13-14 August
STL, 93 wins. 11-9 April, 15-14 June, 11-13 July
18 teams above. Literally all of them had a lackluster month. Only three did not have two or more months during which they struggled or tread water. Those teams averaged 106 wins. For the rest of them, it is absolutely not uncommon to struggle for consecutive months but still end up with a solid record and a playoff appearance. There was even a team that tread water for four months of the season and still ended up with a respectable 92 wins.
There are legitimate complaints to be made about this team. It's certainly possible that the Rangers were a flash in the pan in April and May. But when I look at the numbers from those months, I don't really think they were. They were very good. Since then there has been some injuries and regression, but that's baseball. It's normal.
Don't let people try to call you stupid for being positive. There are plenty of reasons to be.
Have fun.
