Rangers over the last month
Post Body

12 wins, 19 losses.

They are second in position player fWAR.. Team wRC was 3rd in baseball; they ran the bases well and have played outstanding defense.

They are eighth in runs scored.. It's not just a meme: they have struggled with runners in scoring position. But being eighth in runs scored isn't bad, and it's not the reason they're losing.

Over the last month they are 24th in team pitching. Their starters rank 28th in fWAR and 22nd in ERA. The bullpen is 22nd in fWAR and ERA.

Leaving runners on base is maddening and we have certainly seen enough of it, but there is more going on than that or bullpenisbad.

Eovaldi has been mediocre. Gray has been bad. The Rangers have to count on both of them getting better. I like Dunning and always have but realistically he's not going to continue to do what he's done. He may very well be decent going forward and they need him to be. They also need to bump either Heaney or preferably Perez from the rotation and acquire another starter. There's a thread up about Lance Lynn and a lot of people don't seem too pleased about it, but over the last month his peripherals have been pretty strong (13.8 k/9, 2.35 bb/9).

Then they need at least one arm for the bullpen, preferably two, and for the guys they currently have to get better (which is possible).

The team's not done. This is not a collapse. Even very good teams have bad months. They do need a little help on the pitching side, though. Just kind of sick of hearing in the game threads about Nate Lowe, RISP, etc. He's a good hitter. He'll be fine. The team will hit with runners in scoring position again. The real problem is pitching.

I think Lynn is only a good idea if you don’t have to give up anything close to a legit prospect to get him. He’s in the midst of a very bad year, and while his numbers from his last few starts are promising, it’s a small sample size. Not to mention his contract is less than desirable.

Again, not hating on Lynn at all, loved him while he was here but it all depends on what you give up to get him.

All about adding a starter and a few bullpen pieces.

I think Heaney’s stuff would play better in the bullpen than Perez’s would… just let him come in and hang it all out for an inning or two.
