As much as I have been a harsh critic of Ob lately I think it's time to give him what he wants.
Give him control of the roster and Smith could focus more on scouting, personnel, and contract negotiations (which seems to be his specialty).
Ob wants the responsibility so give him a shot while in the last year of his contract and see what happens. No one gets fired, BoB gets to prove himself (without any excuse that Rick didn't give him what he wanted), and McNair wouldn't have to pay out the rest of Smith's new contract.
If Ob does well, he gets his extension.. If not, he's gone and maybe Jimmy Raye III takes over for Smith. Could you live with that?
