UPDATE: I called Tesla first thing this morning and they are refunding me the difference!

SUMMARY: Order incomplete, want price drop refunded, best approach?

So I ordered a model 3 on January 6th and have been waiting almost 5 full months for delivery. I finally got prompted to pay last week, received a VIN but no hard order date or registration yet.

Today, I heard that Tesla had cut the prices of their cars so I went to check the website - the exact model I ordered is now >€3K cheaper.

Considering how long I’ve been waiting and the fact that I haven’t received the car yet, I’d expect Tesla to pass this saving on to me and refund me the difference. However, I don’t believe Tesla is legally required to do this. The support centre is closed on Sunday so I can’t contact them until tomorrow, but I see a few paths this might take:

1: Tesla refund me the difference automatically/after calling them (unlikely).

2: Tesla refuse to refund the difference, I cancel the order, receive the full price of the car back (minus the €200 deposit) and re-order the same model again. This would put me at the back of the queue so I’ll be waiting even longer but it’ll guarantee that I get the reduced price.

3: Do nothing, eat the €3K difference and get the car delivered in the original delivery window.

I think option #2 is the only way I save any money here, but it’s going to be a massive pain and I really don’t want to wait any longer than I already have. I also won’t be able to re-order until Tesla refunds me, which could take a while.

So - does anyone have any experience of a similar situation? Were you able to get the price drop refunded? Are there any other approaches I can take to try and keep my delivery and get the price drop?
