Post Body

I talked to the Tesla provided installer for my location this week. Our electric usage for the last year was just under 29,000 kWh ($3600). The installer let me know the max system size allowed by Mountain View Electric is 10kWh (25 x 400 watt panels). They said it would offset about half my bill.

We have another EV on the way so consumption is not going to go down at all. I assume there is no way that it makes sense to go with solar given our usage vs the small system limit. What a joke. The electrical company being the arbitrator of the size of a solar install is ridiculous. I get that there are safety limitations when pushing excess use back to the grid but I’m not even going to be close to being an exporter.

Is there anyway to appeal the limit on installation size or do I just torpedo the idea of solar with Mountain View Electric? I don’t need power redundancy given we’ve had one 45 minute outage over the last 2 years.
