I'm trying to be as PC as possible here, but I have very squinty, almond-shaped eyes also known as "monolids" that are common in Asian people. I think AP is, well, treating me as if my eyes are CLOSED while behind the wheel. I have been complaining a lot about AutoPilot after the update that ruined it from NHTSA forced Tesla to make changes about 4 months ago. My car is white interior and reflects a lot of sun here in SoCal. Sometimes I forget my sunglasses. Well... If I engage autopilot and drive with hands on the wheel, 9 seconds later: PAY ATTENTION BEEP BEEP. IT keeps doing it until I'm forced to disengage. I'm currently suspended for another 4 days. My commutes are not as enjoyable anymore since stop-and-go traffic used to be a breeze.
I use the scroll wheel or give it a little torque when I get the "PAY ATTENTION BEEP BEEP". It will do it 2 more times and then force disengage AP. even if I'm STARING AT THE ROAD and I acknowledge the notifications. I started a conversation with Tesla about this last week through service. and it is so predictable that I can place my phone to record me and capture it all, well, I did that and sent it on the ticket to them too. None of these problems existed before the update so I doubt it's a hardware problem. I do note that if I put a pair of sunglasses on the visor clip and position it so it partially obscures the camera, It doesn't happen as often or at all sometimes.
This feature was not sold to me as "beta". I did not buy FSD because Autopilot gave me the safety features I was looking for and now they don't work. My warranty is ending in September. I'm almost half ready to ask Tesla to buy my car back with it's 31k miles. I really love the car but feel like the Autopiolt was a huge selling point that now is broken, especially with being penalized for doing what I'm supposed to do: watch the friggin road. I'm not the only one having this problem, am I? Anyone else with "almond shaped eyes" have experience to share?
