Model Y Rear Bumper (or lack there of)
Post Body

I see a lot of posts with rear hatch damage around here and since I had one myself, which I was lucky enough to catch on video, I though I would share my observations.

Please note I am not trying to bash Tesla, I have a 19 M3 since new and is a great vehicle, and I had the Y for a few month and generally speaking it is a great vehicle.

So I have the video of the impact (shared below, slowed down, excuse the sun glare on a dirty lens). An older Toyota Corolla (not lifted or anything) was reversing out of a parking spot and (very slowly) hit the model Y in the rear, close to the corner. In the slow motion video you can see how the Toyota bumper flexed and bounced right back. Zero damage. You can also see the main touch point between the cars is at trunk-lid level, which on the Tesla has no 'give'.
The result you see in the picture.

Note that I was able to have the damage fixed by a PDR guy for about $100 and couple hours of my time (and you could not see anything was there)

Point of this story:

* If it happens to you, try PDR before going to insurance / Tesla.
* Park in reverse ? much less likely to get dinged like that
* Would be great if someone comes up with a thick rubber trim piece to glue on the top of the little 'Bumper'. looks like if it extends like .25 inch it would protect from this kind of damages
