I've seen adapters for CHAdeMo and CCS, and that EA is moving to replace their plugs with CCS. I also saw that the Model 3 used to not be compatible with CHAdeMO, but then is, yet the Tesla site currently says not with the Model 3 (when looking at the adapter). Did they not update that after 2 years? Or is it not compatible? And if CHAdeMO is on the way out, spending 500 for the adapter doesn't seem prudent.

Yea, basically the wife almost got stranded because we thought we had the adapter to use EA (the one that comes with the car, the J1772) but apparently that is not the case. So yea, we're still learning about all this, got the Model 3 just over a week ago.
