Hello! We are excited new owners of a first-generation (2012) Model S. We live in downtown San Jose in a 100 -year-old house that has a fairly narrow and steep driveway that goes into our basement garage from the sidewalk. When attempting to park the Tesla in the garage/driveway (for inevitably installing a charging system), the car is scraping and bottoming out on the back 2/3rds of the car once it reaches the steep angle coming off the sidewalk. This is with the suspension fully lifted to 6.4 inches, and unfortunately, I don't have too much room to try to come in at an angle, although I may give it another go. I am hoping to hear some possible solutions as well as get feedback on some I've thought of already.
- For starters, how much damage is this causing? I read that the underbody has metal railings along the edges and this is likely what is scraping. I think the sidewalk is taking my damage than the car itself. Should I just let the car wear down the sidewalk and put up with it?
- The car is on 19" wheels. Would upgrading to 20" or 21" have a significant improvement to the ground clearance it needs?
- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RPKVV7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share These seem to be popular options for people who are scraping at the entrance of their driveway but I wonder if maybe having the back wheels going over those would lift the car in a way to safely get it over the spot where it is scraping.
New owner and member of this page, so sincere and kind replies are very appreciated!
