Almost 4 years ago this happened. Watch this live and genuinely thought he died in that crash, as did many others until we all watched him climb out the cockpit.
He attempted to escape immediately after the cockpit split, but his foot was stuck. He was in the fireball for a good 30 seconds, and when he unwedged his foot he somehow still had energy to climb over the barrier and escape.
