Possibilities of a Blind Accessibility Mod?

Hey!

I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so I hope this is okay!

I lost my vision back in 2021 due to a rare genetic eye disability finally robbing me of my vision. Before this, I loved playing video games. They were my favorite past time, and while I can still play some games thanks to the efforts of those who are making audio games, these are of course super limited, and I miss out on many new releases because game developers still don't take accessibility seriously.

Which, hey, I totally get it. If you set aside development time for an accessibility feature that only about 0.1% of the ocmmunity would take advantage of, then I wouldn't do it either. The fact is, people want development time to go towards projects that a majority of their users can enjoy, and I get it, so no shade towards Re-Logic at all. They have made a wonderful game that I have personally sunk hundreds of hours into, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

With this new wave of AI programming assistants, I can imagine modifications to the game files has become easier than ever, but while it still has some nice ease of access thanks to AI, AI isn't perfect, and will make loads of errors that average users trying to mod that don't have programming knowledge could fix.

So what I was wondering is, how far off are we from AI being able to take chunks of game code, analyze it, and create modifications for us through simple english? Like asking the AI, "Walk me through the steps to create an accessibility mod that adds screen reader functionality to Terraria using the Microsoft Sappy engine. This modification should send out those labels like Singleplayer, Multiplayer, etc buttons from the main menu to the sappy engine, and read those aloud."

And have the AI walk the user through those steps to produce that mod, providing the code along the way. If this were the case, I can only imagine that the sky would be the limit for other blind gamers who just want to be able to play games with their friends like everyone else, and it would make me so happy. I'm serious, if I could relive my childhood and play something like RuneScape with my brother again, sitting down together and chopping ivy in varrock, or playing Terraria together and fighting bosses, I would actually probably cry.

My girlfriend mentions how she misses being able to play games with me as well, and while we have some nice accessibility focused games coming out soon that have multiplayer like Forza Motorsport, neither of us are super keen on racing games, but I just want to give it a shot because the developers took the time to implement accessibility in a very clever way.

So what do you guys think? Sorry if this post came across as rambly, I wasn't sure exactly how to lay this out, but I hope this made sense at least.

Thanks!
