I have questions regarding my rights as a tenant. I've been trying to get transferred to a new unit within my apartment complex since December 11th 2023. I moved into my current apartment december 1st. I was introduced to my roommates assigned to me by the apartment. They have agressive dogs that are never reprimanded and are messy and dirty. The apartment also has a roach infestation that was not adressed until I complained. The exterminator informed me that the issue was definetely pre-existing. I signed a renewal lease before I knew about any of these issues due to pressure from the main office. The renewal lease was signed December 7th My request to be transferred was made December 11th. I have recieved no help from the apartment. I had to find another unit that would let me move in with them on my own and when I told the apartment that I had found another option they said they would charge me a $300 transfer fee. My lease states the transfer fee can only be $200 and that if the request is made within 7 days of signing then there may be no fee at all. I made the request within 4 days. I want to know what my rights are and if I can fight this.
