Long post (md, usa) I've rented this basement apt for 3 years. In general it's a nice place. 1 bedroom, full bathroo. With walkin shower, separate jacuzzi, w/d in unit, kitchen, with dishwasher and oven. Separate entrance. For a steal honestly. But my landlords SUCK. they don't fix anything or respond to my messages. After the first year and a half of me living here the washer kept breaking. The first time I got them to fix it. The second time it broke within 2 months and I felt bad and like I was being too rough so I paid for it to get fixed. The third time they didn't answer so I had to get it fixed again. It's broken again. It's been broken currently for 6 months at least. The house has no central air or heat. I have a space heater in the living room and my bedroom. I can't have the space heater run with say the dishwasher or air fryer cu it flips the circuit breaker. One night I woke up to a light bulb leaking ONTO the space heater. There's an ac u it in the only window in the house (in my bedroom) which means in the summer I can't close my bedroom door because the air needs to circulate through the whole apt. Like I said my landlords don't answer messages. They don't pick up phone calls. I once got into with them in a group text and the landlady decided that I wasn't allowed to talk to her husband anymore. Another time she said I was getting nasty (she was being intentionally unhelpful and an ass) and so I was only allowed to communicate via text. (Not that she answered) She started a rumored to my new upstairs neighbors that I was nasty, mean, and would sleep with anybodys husband. The new neighbors were Dicks to me and I had no idea why. This caused an incident to occur that got physical and the cops were called. I called/texted them multiple times. No answer. I'd been paying full price but decided that since I wasn't able to use all the amenities I wasn't paying for it and started taking $20/40 every week or so(i split my monthly rent up over 4 weeks. Its easier for my adhd brain to pay), so I could go to the laundrymat. Then i had to replace the space heaters so I took that out of the rent as well. I always put a note in the rent for what the deficits were for (example: $100 rent week 1 January minus 20 laundry, minus 60 space heater). I also texted her and let her know what i was doing. Again she never answered. A couple of days after the incident with the neighbors we were able to chat and clear things up. We realized that the landlords didn't want us to talk because I'd tell them how shitty they were. Anyway recently i got a call from the neighbor saying the landlady was applying for a renters license and that an inspector was coming. When he left this attached pic was on the door. Do I have any legal recourse? I'm going to contact landlord and tenant court tomorrow but wanted to hear from you guys. (More in comments)
