Am I required to pay rent during the time my apartment is uninhabitable?
Post Body

A couple of weeks ago, the pipes burst in a unit above me and caused water to flood into my apartment. I was misled on how long repairs would take. I stayed somewhere else that night since I was told someone would be there that morning to clean up the water. The next day, I spoke to maintenance and they said they were going to remove Sheetrock from parts of my ceiling and wall, leave it exposed for a couple of days to let it dry out and then cover the holes. They made it seem like I’d be able to return that night. I came back to my entire apartment covered in plastic and the insulation from the ceilings dripping with water. Plus breathing in the fiberglass would make me cough after being there for only 5 minutes. No one returned until a week later except they started cutting out even more sheet rock. About a foot from every wall in my apartment is cut out. It’s been 2 weeks now. Luckily I’ve been able to stay with a friend, but am I responsible to pay full rent at a place that I haven’t even been able to live at? I won’t be able to go up to my complex and speak with them until Thursday as I am out of time for a family emergency. I live in Texas if that makes any difference.
