I honestly don't know how anyone can "look at their hands" and break 10-12f throws on reaction. Its literally insane to me. The difference in the hand animation is minor to begin with. So I cant look at hands and break on reaction. (i will keep trying though, maybe in 2-3 years ill be able to do it) On youtube there are videos showing every throwbreak but thats not what I want. I cannot memorize 30 throws and the appropriate breaks.
Typically I'm just mashing 1 and hoping for the best. Or 1 2 if the King is running at me to break Shining Whizard (altho half the time i just get smashed by a hopkick anyway)
Are there any good general rules / "cheats" that I can use to at least minimize the risks I take? Like mash 1 if its a CD throw, mash 2 if its a sidestep throw, mash 1 if its a "1,2 jab string -> throw", etc.
I went into practice mode and did some of these multithrows to see if they were hard to do, and surprise surprise - they arent. You can actually just land the first throw and then mash through the whole throw animation to get all sorts of multithrows. I did all kinds of random multithrows without even looking at the movelist. Seriously - anyone who is thinking "wow these multithrows must be hard to execute" go into practice mode and mash randomly. I was shocked in the most disappointing way possible.
Its just incredibly frustrating that King can land 100 plus damage without even having to spend 10 minutes in practice mode, and its not like breaking a throw leaves him at -15 so i can launch him (i really think breaking a MULTITHROW should leave him at some sort of disadvantage). Is there any real reason for a King player to not try a multithrow every chance he gets? What is the risk to King?
Anyway back to the original question. Any tips or advice to help even the odds or just make it a bit easier for a new player vs King. One day I'll be able to look at hands etc, but right now im still focusong on movemnet, block punishment, whiff punishment, combos etc (currently Usurper rank). But if I cant figure something out to help against these throws im just gonna start dodging King until i can spend 3 whole days practicing against him, so that I stand a chance against something that takes no practice at all. (yes im salty)
Right now im really just using movement and lots of KBD to try and keep him off pointblank range, really focusing on my keepout so he has less chances to grab me at all. Obviously this isn't perfect and he gets into range 0 eventually.
Anyone who takes the time to reply and doesnt just say 'get good' - THANK YOU. Im not saying nerf king, Im not saying F this, etc. I do think its very lame and not fun or healthy for the game, but whatever - it at least adds variety and makes the game unique.
