How to bleach your jeans
EDIT 1:20 was probably a little too dilute. If i was to do it again I would probably do like a 1:10 or even 1:5 ratio of bleach to water. This would make the process faster and probably not result in the metal corroding.
Materials:
- Big bucket (I used a 21 litre bucket)
- Bleach (I used about 1000ml of, 5%m/v chlorine, bleach)
- Jeans (Here is a photo of the colour mine started as)
- Mixing stick
- Water
Procedure:
- Fill your bucket with water and soak your jeans through (a pre-soak distributes the bleach more evenly)
- Take them out add your bleach to the water (I used a 1:20 ratio of bleach to water this turned out to be extremely dilute).
- Put your pre-soaked jeans into the dilute bleach solution. Mix around to ensure and even distribution.
- Soak until satisfied (took me like 10 hours over 2 days because of the really dilute solution)
- When satisfied with the colour, take out jeans and throw them in the washing machine, wash.
- Allow the jeans to dry.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Make sure your bucket can fully cover your jeans in the solution
- Using more bleach will make the procedure faster, however it may damage the jeans
- Mix your jeans frequently, about once every 20 – 30 minutes
- Metal buttons may corrode
- Denim next to the rivets became white, not really noticeable.
- Practice correct safety measures (gloves)
And that's all there is to it enjoy your new jeans! If your have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments!
