Hi everyone !
I want to contribute to this amazing community but I am neither a talented artist nor can I understand Chinese and write helpful guides. So I will do what I am good at : data science ! XD
Reddit poll #1 : Love interest
For those who recall, 3 months ago I made a poll asking about everyone's favorite Love Interest : https://www.reddit.com/r/TearsOfThemis/comments/plihp8/who_is_your_favorite_love_interest_in_tot/
It was a classic and straightforward one, which can be interesting to do every year to see how the community feels about ToT's LI and how they evolved in our hearts.
First, thanks a lot to everyone who participated, we collected 1400 votes, that is insane ! All the more insane as it was opened for only 3 days, a rookie mistake I won't reproduce haha. Next ones will be opened for a week (reddit doesn't allow more sadly) so more people can participate.
Now onto the results, for the release of the game we can safely say that :
- Artem is a fan favorite for more than a third of the players.
- Marius and Luke were tied at second place (accounting 5% confidence interval) with ~25% of simps.
- Vyn won the heart of 15% of the players.
I am sure if we were to do the poll now the results would sligthly change, as attested by the posts/fanarts we can see on the reddit and the events that happened since then.
Along with this poll was attached a Google survey which consisted of a more complete LI ranking (first to fourth) and a demographic/gaming habit survey. 486 redditors were kind enough to participate.
Google survey first subject : LI ranking
- For first LI, we have similar results as the reddit poll (Artem > Luke/Marius > Vyn)
- Whoever you chose as favorite, chances are Artem or Marius is probably your second.
- Actually 2/3 of the players have Artem or Marius as first and/or second.
- Only 25 % chose Vyn as first or second LI, with 62% chosing him as fourth :(
- Luke shows the most parcimonious presence in each group (7.8 standard deviation).
Google survey second subject : Demographics
- Well this is no surprise that the majority of players are female (85%) the rest being male (7%) or other (8%). Always nice to see minorities playing Otome games :3 Of course the poll isn't representative of the whole ToT community, especially as this was shared on Reddit and we know a lot of males use it. I'm curious how it correlates to this subreddit demographics, mods may have the answer.
- The age part was a real mystery to me and I am quite surprised that the Mean population is quite young ! A third of the answering players are 16-20 years old, and 50% are between 21-30 yo. 9% are teenagers (<16 yo) and hopefully will be of age of playing ToT by next year when the rating will go up XD Finally 7% have more than 30 yo and 2 respondents were above 40 yo.
Google survey third subject : Gaming habits
- Interestingly Tears of themis is the first Otome game for 19% of you. A third are veteran husbando chasers ;)
- More than 3/4 have played other Mihoyo games, and have probably heard of ToT thanks to Genshin/Honkai. Still I am pleased to see that so many have never touched other Mihoyo games, so welcome to the family ! Maybe ToT made you want to try other games from the Chinese publisher.
- And finally, the juicy question, moneyyy ! We can consider 6% of whales (by their standards, I didn't give any definition of "what is spending a lot"), 40% of players with reasonable spendings and 54% of Free-to-play. I have no idea if this is a lot or not of F2P but being around Genshin players everyday made me believe that a lot actually do inject money into the game, but this is probably a community bias as more invested players would participate in reddit and forum discussions imho, making them more inclined to spend time and money.
I've searched briefly for gacha standards of spending in hope of comparison, but didn't come through many extensive studies. This 2019 study about Japanese gacha addiction (time and money) was actually quite interesting, and averaged their montly gacha expenditure of around $25.

Alright, I hope this was a bit interesting, if at least informative. Thanks for reading thus far :3
I intend to do more polls about favorite cards, NPCs, story/case, events and such. If you like the concept, any ideas is welcome !
Also here is a quick poll as I am curious to see if compared to when you started Tears of Themis, you changed your main LI or overall ranking.
Cheers ~
