Why do some people pick the worst portal when there are better options avail? Is it just to troll?

Like there will be 7 people who want prismatic party or like crab rave.....but then there's that one dude who will pick like "start with 3 1 cost champs"
Like is there strategic benefit to this that Im not aware of or is it just like...trolling?
edit: also not sure if it matters but I literally never played ranked. I only play for funsies and even if I lose, its still like oh nice cool, I hit ten sentinel but the other dude hit 3* star teemo, cool.
