Mythic Medallions - Question, how do you get them?

I have finally seen the new rotating shop and battle pass and I am beyond confused. What are mythic medallions and where do I get them? Can I only purchase them? What is the point of Realm Crystals? I didn't know they were making these changes and I guess I won't be able to even try out the rotating shop for this set.
I am being genuine in that I have no idea how to attain the mythic medallions.
