So I spent this last week in Japan, primarily to see how much progress I've made since the last time I was there, and also because it's awesome!
I've definitely learned a lot, I could understand most of the conversations that were going on around me, but actually taking part in them was a bit more difficult.
And I've also noticed that if you don't actually know exactly what words to use for what you want to say, people won't make much effort to understand you, especially if you're someone that speaks Japanese, they'll just turn their head to them for an explanation.
All in all I think I've made progress speaking-wise while there, but there's still lots to learn. For the next time I want to be able to more actively converse with people, and not just answer questions most of the time.
