Not so much transitioning out of teaching, but. . .
Post Body

I was offered a position yesterday to become a Tech Apps and Robotics teacher at my current school. I've taught math for 17 years and really enjoy the content. But the last 3 or 4 years has just been hell. Testing keeps getting harder and the students just keep getting less and less mature. I don't want to leave teaching, but my new principal (who used to be an AP at my campus, but came back after 2 years to lead us) called me yesterday to see if he could run something by me in person. I drive to the school for a 10 minute proposal. "Man I love the way you push the kids to learn. You have such a great rapport with all kids that come into your classroom. I want to keep you on this campus because I value that. Would you be interested in switching to technology and robotics? No more testing, no more high demands for curriculum, no more admin in your classroom except for yearly observations." I said I would take the weekend and let him know on Monday because this seems like a great change for me. But I was hesitant because of how much I enjoy teaching math. His exact words to me are as follows: "dude you're still teaching math if you take this position. The robotics part is legitimate engineering on a middle school level. And with the technology apps, you basically get to do whatever the fuck you want since there's no set standards." I told him that sounds really really fun and I'd let him know Monday. I get home, text some friends from my campus, and 2 hours later called the principal back to accept his offer. "Man I am so happy you took me up on this. You're really going to enjoy it and be happier teaching kids how to use their brains." I never thought I'd be in the world of electives, but I'm excited.

TL;DR I'm transitioning from teaching math to technology and I couldn't be happier!
