Hello everyone, what's the longest time it has taken for a background/reference check process to be completed for a job you applied and interviewed for?
Post Body

Hello! I live in NYC. Back in November, a middle school (charter) reached out to me on LinkedIn for the position of High School Placement Counselor. I was very interested as I wanted a non-instructional school job and the school has somewhat good reviews on Glassdoor. I went through the initial screening call and then a demo lesson interview was scheduled. However, the day before the interview, they just sent me another calendar invite and changed the date of the interview, which upset me as I already used a PTO for the day. There were no prior notice and I got bad vibes. Felt the school lacked structure.

I still decided to go ahead as I really wanted the job, so I rescheduled it to next week, went and did great. I loved the school and the kids were very respectful and disciplined compared to the last school I worked at. After the demo lesson, we sat and spoke for a long time, which gave me the vibes that I really have a high chance of getting the job, as the hiring person was talking in so much details about the school, kids, expectations, etc. you know when you did bad on an interview, they just give a fake smile and they say they will call you back? Yup, that didn’t happen thankfully. They emailed next week saying they will do background and references check. Mind you this was in November. Now everytime I email them, they still say that they are doing the final verification now.

I have seen the report and they called all the references and verified my old work places, but still no final decision had been given yet.

I am okay if I get rejected and don’t get the job, but I am not liking how they are keeping me hanging for so long. It is January now. I am also applying for other jobs but with my education degree, I am not able to find any other high paying jobs, which is why I really wanted this one.

What do you guys think, should I still keep hoping?
