Hello!

Been lurking in this subreddit for several weeks now, and so far I still want to pursue a new career teaching History to high schoolers. I am in WA state. I attended an Information School for my hopeful school for my MIT and as they were going through the application materials, he mentioned that you should mention in this particular section about your experience working with kids. Please don't roll your eyes - but I have zero experience working with teens, outside of my nephews. His reply was basically- Get some! So what we're still neck deep in a pandemic? I mean, it makes sense. But I'm just not sure what to do for this, given the current environment. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do?

I've been wanting to teach for 20 years, but I kept getting sidetracked or going down different tracks of other careers. I recently lost a job I liked and as I was trying to decide what to do next, I thought, screw it. Now is the perfect time to do this - I am somewhat financially secure enough to not need to work and go to school and this is what I really want to do. I'm needing 2-3 courses to meet the History endorsement requirement, which I am working on now with application deadline for MIT program in October.

Thanks for reading!
