I teach middle school emotional support. One of my students brought his home computer to school knowing it’s against rules. I took it and put it in the office. I told him, and called his mom and told her that it would remain there until she came into school to get it. At the end of the day, he asked to go get it. I told him no. I told him again that mom had to come get it. He tried arguing with me that it was his and he could take it. I once again told him that mom could take it when she came to pick it up. I had my para walk him to the van (he rides special transportation). She came back into the room and told me he begged her not to tell me that he took the computer. The more I think about this, the more upset I am with her. She was in the room when I told him he couldn’t have it. If he begged her not to tell me, she KNEW he knew he wasn’t allowed to take it and she let him do it anyway. I will be speaking with her about it in the morning. It does no good to have support staff if those staff are letting the kids get away with things.
