Tips for resigning? I want to cover all of my bases

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Brand new teacher here. I took a job in rural KY and it is not going well. I don’t get along with the people. I feel like I’m just wasting my time here.

I signed the contract after the board voted to go online until at least September 28th. Now it looks like they’re going back on that decision and might start in person as early as the 4th. Now that they’ve changed their mind it kind of solidified for me that this is not the right place for me.

It’s at will, but if I quit I know they can come after me for the cost of finding a new teacher. I know they can revoke my certificate but it’s a one year provisional certificate and I don’t see myself working in a public school in this area.

Is there anything else I should be aware of before resigning? I think I will ask the board to release me from the contract first but if that doesn’t work I will quit. I’m not going to be in a room with 30 middle schoolers right now. I do not need this job and could take a year off if needed.
