[Sped] At my wits' end!

Post Body

The struggle is real y'all.

I've been calling, emailing, texting, posting and for what? The past couple of weeks have been nothing but me sitting for at least 8 hours daily at my desk preparing resources and trying to contact students and parents. Of course, they all say the right stuff on the phone but as soon as we hang up I think everything is forgotten. Parents who advocated for their kids during the year and had them tested and put into SPED have now gone completely radio silent. All I can do is continue to make attempts and log them all down. I get it, even myself as a parent, I'm struggling to get my kids online and doing their work. But at least we're making an effort. 75% of my students and parents are just looking at this as an early start to summer. Today I got three separate requests to enter information on students who are not completing work. So I opened my spreadsheet and copied the information into their documents... as anything will come of it.

I honestly wish the Feds would let schools off the hook for SPED because of the way my students' parents are handling this. There's going to be a lot of tough conversations when we come back where I'll have to point out all the logs of everything that has been provided and left on the table. Of the roughly 30 students in my SPED caseload, I have about 90 goals to account for. I've issued assignments and materials for all of those goals. I've had one returned. One.

My director says I should have data on all these goals by the end of the grading period next week. OK, chief.

I love what I do but this situation is making me realize that people don't prioritize education as they should. Thanks for reading, I just had to get this off my chest with some people who would understand.
