I am a math teacher at a high school on a native american reservation. A little background. I took a year off to deal with personal and familial problems as i could not find a job in my native state (MN), lost a ton of confidence in myself and my craft, almost made a dire mistake and 5 months later found this job applied and got it. I feel like i took a step or two backwards from where i was two years ago when i was last teaching. I knew going in this year was going to be rough in many different ways, and i was trying everything in my power to create a place of learning in my classroom. My superintendent observed me twice this year and at the last post-ob meeting was told that her recommendation was for me to go back to school to get my masters and get into a classroom to see how other teachers do things and work with someone or go to a bigger school. My school is super small and there are only two of us teachers in grades 8-12. I was given a mentor who is a 1st grade teacher and the dean of students, but i've been mostly going to the other math teacher to figure out how to better my craft. i've been trying hard to get better but my super has given me 2 weeks to show "exponential growth" before she recommends renewing me to the board. I'm not a great interviewee, and started to make my mark at this school and community. This is my 3rd school i've worked at and first school in my new state (SD). I already mentally committed to staying 3-5 years if not more. If anyone has any suggestions on what i should do would be really appreciated. Officially i have 2 years of experience that is recognized by the board, but this is my 4th year of teaching.
