Last year was my first year teaching in NYC at a high need renewal school. I was rated as "Developing" in terms of classroom instruction but got an overall rating of an "Ineffective" due to low Regents scores.
Today I got an email from the DOE stating that due to my rating I would be assigned a "Peer Independent Evaluator". Basically someone who comes in from the city unannounced 3 times throughout the year whom I have no contact with both before and after the evaluation. I don't even get to see the evaluations till the end of the year.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster / setup and highly punitive considering the context of my situation, wondering if anyone has gone through the same and what their experience is with these people. I feel extremely apprehensive about it...
