Post Body

I was a 4th/5th grade Math/Science teacher in TX for 4 years. I thought I would love it so much, and I did love my kids and helping them. There’s just so much unnecessary stuff that teachers are felt like they are forced to do. Being the only male teacher in an elementary school meant I was given all of the “behavior” kids, which wouldn’t be too bad if they weren’t all fighting each other every day. There were weapons brought to school, class evacuations from a meltdown and desks/chairs being thrown, and all I was getting was blame from parents that I should’ve been able to handle it.

I started looking for jobs last year every day when I came home, and I found something that makes me $20K more per year and it’s SO easy. My advice is if you are in a similar situation: take the leap and go for it if you want to leave education. Unfortunately there won’t be any changes in the future I’m sure, so teachers will continue to be disrespected, underpaid, under-appreciated, and overworked.

Ask me anything about it!
