Had an interview and they “surprised” me by wanting me to teach a demo lesson

Post Body

Just sort of venting here, but I’m a new ESL teacher who is still looking for their first job, and I had an interview for a kindergarten position recently. Without any prior notice though, after the “regular“ interview part, the principal told me I’d be teaching a 15 minute demo lesson to the class I’d be actually teaching in if they hired me since they currently have a long term sub.

I felt like I was drowning in anxiety. I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t even know what I was teaching until I walked into the classroom. The kids wanted absolutely nothing to do with me and I felt like I wanted to crawl under a rock because of how chaotic it seemed. It just ended up making me feel like I’m awful at teaching.

With that all being said, is it normal for me to now feel very uninterested in teaching for this school (if they even offered me the position which I doubt lol) because of this?

And to add, the principal also never gave me the opportunity to ask any questions after the interview either, which put me off even more.
