I’m a first year teacher in an urban school district and I have to say this experience has been awful. I am essentially doing three preps. I teach two blocks back to back of a subject I am not qualified for. Also, I do not teach in a real classroom. The school is overcrowded so they got rid of the library and replaced it with cubicles so I can hear what goes on in other classes. Also kids love to throw things over the walls at each other and slam into the walls causing them to collapse.
I’m also autistic so this is causing sensory overload and giving me large amounts of anxiety. Frankly I r decided to go either private or out to the burbs after this year. Is that okay asa first year teacher to be at a place for just a year? I’m not sure I’ll survive at my school. I have taught English Language Learners, I’m certified to teach Social Studies and emergency certified to teach English to teenagers. Would it be possible to get into suburban schools with that resume?
