I’m an early childhood teacher (Pre-K to G3) and this year, my school has me teaching a G6 writing class. They’re insufferable and I honestly feel totally out of my element dealing with their attitude. I don’t know how to relate to them and why they seemingly hate school or any task I ask them to do because growing up in an abusive home, I loved school as it was my safe space. I’ve been a teacher for years and teaching lower grades is no issue at all for me— but I really feel at a loss here. They don’t listen to instructions, I’ve tried implementing some different reward systems for things they care about— how can I get them to just do what’s required so this entire year isn’t so miserable?
