Now that I have had a cup of coffee , the positive is starting to come out . Funny how that works, a small cup of coffee just makes the day better. And while I am smiling I thought I would share a small bright spot in my day.
Let me digress. I really like watching kids figure things out . There , I said it . I know there is always a ton of negative here but even after 20 years I still just chuckle and laugh at teens. I really get a lot of meaning in my life from spending time with them.
It’s like , it’s Thursday in my second period class and I just saw a kid slip and fall walking between desk. He got up quick and looked to see if anyone else saw him . In that moment I think I was the only one paying attention but his recovery was just flawless. And he was smooth as he continued.
Ode the joys of awkward teens . Yeah, that’s it! On today’s episode of awkward teenagers I am reminded of students practicing dance moves on their way to class . A group of kids doing “The Jerk” and I just laughed and laughed. You younger teachers might not get that reference but the older ones will. It is a personal view of children that no one gets to see but us teachers.
And because of that WE are privileged. We get to see a side of children that not even most of their parents get to see. We get to see them interact with their classmates . We get to see the good, the bad and yes sometimes the ugly . But we are really special and think we need to be reminded of that .
So now I ask you , my comrades in the trenches of public education. What is one awkward thing that you have seen a student do that just made you smile .
And I challenge all of you to have a good rest of the day !
