I've had problems with my classroom heat all winter, and the maintenance department each time comes out and "fixes" the problem, but it malfunctions again shortly thereafter. Well, this week it's very cold and I can't have class in a room with no heat. I just have a class for 1st block. The rest of the day, I'm support staff. So...I knew I needed to find another teacher with 1st block prep. I called the office, and they suggested to use the room of a teacher around the corner. The students have to each grab a book, take it to the other class, and then return them in my room before they go to their next class. That's a lot to do if I go to a classroom further away. Up until this incident, I've considered this particular teacher and myself as (distant) work friends, and we have laughed, gone to lunch, etc. I had to use her room yesterday and today. That's all.
Today, Me: (Down the hall) Can you please unlock your room (or I can do it for you); I still don't have any heat today.
Her: I'm going to need some quiet time...mumble mumble mumble
Me: Well, you know they're still working on my heat and my class can't stay in there.
Her: You know, I'm not the only one off on 1st
Me: You need to talk to the principal or the head custodian.
TBH, her whole reaction took me by surprise. You'd have thought we had been using her room for a month or that we leave it trashed. I just didn't understand this.
