I was a big fan as a teen, now in my early thirties and rediscovering her music. And while I work my way through her catalog, I’d love if any of you could point me in the direction of songs with certain themes/emotions.
Currently Im obsessed with But Daddy I Love Him. The love story element is fun. But it’s some of the other themes that really speak to me. The first verse of the song really resonates as someone who grew up in a very conservative and judgemental church. The lyrics about being caged and people trying to save you even if they hate you.
Also the way the song talks about other people always trying to tell you how to live your life, decide what’s best for you, being judgemental of your choices. How it focuses on moving past that finding joy and not caring what people think (I’m still working on that myself)
Some of the lyrics are just so healing. My ultimate favourite is “I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace.”
Id really love to know suggestions for other songs that have similar themes even if the songs aren’t wholly about them.
TIA!
