Can this be preserved?

No turtles were harmed for this. I found a box turtle shell in the woods in decent condition. The animal must have not made it through winter, as I found it in spring. Is there a way to clean and preserve this shell? If so how?

If preserving the scales on the shell is your goal, you can always put a couple layers of polyurethane on the shell. But, take that with a grain of salt - not a taxidermist but that’s what I did with a turtle shell I found and it worked out for me.
